About this test:

LES test is a classification test used to select and distribute students to Turkish universities for postgraduate studies after obtaining a bachelor’s degree. It is typically taken by those who are interested in enrolling in government universities to pursue a master’s or doctoral degree.

The ALES test is divided into two sections: a verbal section and a mathematical section. Each section is further divided into two parts, each consisting of 40 questions. The student is required to answer only three out of these four parts, totaling 120 questions. The duration of the test is 180 minutes.

Who administers this test?

The ALES test is administered by ÖSYM (Student Selection and Placement Center).

When is the ALES test held?

This test is held twice yearly, in the spring and fall semesters. The dates may vary to align with the test day falling on a Sunday in both semesters.

Importance of the ALES test: 

All government universities within the Republic of Turkey will require students to submit a document proving their ALES test score when applying for admission to a master’s or doctoral program. This requirement excludes those applying to fine arts colleges or the music institute.

Minimum passing score in the ALES test: 

A student must obtain a minimum of 50%, which is the passing score on this test.

Who is eligible to take the ALES test?

Every student who holds a bachelor’s degree from a Turkish university and wishes to pursue further studies for a master’s or doctoral degree can take the ALES test. Additionally, students who have completed their bachelor’s degree outside of Turkey are eligible to take this test after having their bachelor’s degree equivalent recognized by the Turkish Ministry of National Education.

The validity period of the ALES test result is three years from the date of issuance.
